Millions of women involved in commercial sex industry are at risk of contracting AIDS or HIV. Many of them were forced to do it or sold into this trade. It happens quite often that women are simply compelled into this work by just poverty and discrimination. Even local police rape them very often and such women are vulnerable to abuse and robbery. Their lives become shorter because of it.

Fortunately, there are examples in India, Thailand, etc. of successful rescues when police raided different brothels and took girls to rehab facilities. It should also be mentioned here that advocates denounce such operations and descourage the upcoming ones.

Another horrible fact is that there are many young girls who get into sex industry and they can’t speak the local language. It is simply impossible for them to negotiate safe sex. As you can see, such situations are desperate and people need help. There are many organizations that make money by sending people abroad. Governments should understand the importance of dealing with the problem of people trafficking and unsafe sex and undertake certain measures. These women deserve better treatment!
